In 1999, 441 acres of the former King Ridge Ski Area were gifted to the Town of Sutton by developer Frank Stewart. The mixed woodlands include a quarter mile of Lyon Brook, vernal pools, historic stonewalls and cellar holes, and portions of the former ski trails.

The Sutton Conservation Commission has been given the responsibility of overseeing KHR. The reservation is managed as a public park, fostering an appreciation for our natural and historical heritage. It provides a variety of recreational opportunities throughout the year.

King Hill Reservation is protected by a conservation easement held by the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust.

  • Ski Touring
  • Snowshoeing
  • Sledding
  • Snowmobiling
  • Hunting
  • Fishing
  • etc.

Please note, this area is closed to all wheeled vehicles.

Please no fires, no camping, and carry out your trash.

Trail Courtesy:

  • Be considerate of others on the trail
  • Keep right when stopping
  • Obey posted signs
  • Keep pets under control at all times – clean up after your pet
  • Leave natural features, stonewalls, archaeological artifacts as found
  • Respect wildlife – observe wildlife from afar to avoid disturbing them – never enter designated wildlife management areas – never feed wildlife
  • Stay on the trail (even if it means wet feet)
  • Stay off CLOSED trails

Wildlife Management Areas

Signs are placed where trails pass through or are adjacent to Wildlife Management Areas. Please stay on the trail and out of wildlife areas.

  • Trail Maintenance
  • Habitat Improvement
  • Sign Design and Preparation
  • Research
  • Interpretation
  • Hike Leaders
